Summer's Winding Down

As I downloaded pictures from our cameras yesterday, I noticed a number of pictures that I never got around to posting. Here's a random sampling of our summer.

Summer concert at Oak Knoll winery

Multnomah Days parade - we walked with the Delta Society

Camping at John Neal Memorial park

A little covered bridge in Scio, OR
We also attended the Air and Art Festival in Albany over the weekend, but it doesn't look like we took any pictures there. It was advertised as a balloon festival, but we never saw a single balloon. It seemed like it was a festival with an identity crisis. We saw art, old cars, airplanes, and music.  The drive there took us through Scio, OR where we took the picture above. We did find one of the many covered bridges in the area.

Hope your summer's been as full and fun as ours. The final summer concert is tomorrow night in Beaverton. I don't know about you, but this summer went by way too quickly.

Camping at John Neal Memorial Park

We took the trailer out this weekend for a quick trip down to John Neal Memorial Park in Lyons, OR. We like that park because it's right on the banks of the Santiam River. There are some rapids right in front of the site we always choose, which drowns out any noise that you might get from other campers. We went there last August, too.

Our favorite site on the banks of the Santiam River

Kendall in her own camping chair

Kendall has her own camping chair. She's not big on camping and doesn't like to lay in the dirt. She just went to the groomer on Thursday, but you'd never know it after this weekend. She's going to need a good brushing and a bath.

If you can't be in your chair, you may as well be on a sleeping pad
The camp fire
Kendall's not big on camp fires, either. She tends to be ready for bed around 9 pm whether we are or not. We put her to bed in the trailer and stayed up for awhile. It was a cool weekend with temps in the mid 60's and 70's. That's pretty cool for Oregon in August.

This morning, while eating breakfast, I noticed something moving along in the grass. Check out this slug! I put the deck of cards in the picture so we'd have some reference as to its size.

We made it through the weekend with no rain!

A New Birdfeeder

I know this isn't Kendall related at all, but I wanted to show off my new bird feeder. I don't even know if I'll be able to bring myself to fill it with bird food and make it all dirty.

Isn't it cute?

National Dog Day

Happy National Dog Day! What better way to celebrate than a trip to the groomer? Kendall goes to a great groomer that we found by way of another dog owner. She goes to Debbie at Deb's Laundra Mutt in Beaverton. She always comes home looking so cute and smelling much, much better.

She was acting goofy in the back yard, so I decided to play along and shoot some goofy pictures.

Am I close enough?

What?

How do you like my top knot? My mom thinks it makes me look cute.
However you decide to celebrate, have fun with your canine friend.

Let the Adventures Begin!

Today is my last day of work before I embark on a series of events better known as vacation/sabbatical. I am lucky to work for a company that gives you a 4-week sabbatical after ten years of service. We're allowed to tack up to 2 weeks of PTO on to that for a total of 6 weeks off! I have some wonderful adventures planned for Kendall and me. Stay tuned!

Rascal wine

I was in the store yesterday and a label on a bottle of wine caught my eye. The wine is called Rascal Pinot Noir, and it has a sillouhette of a dog on it.

The reason why it caught my eye is because one of the dogs we had when I was growing up was named Rascal. She was a little TerriPoo that made her way to our house by way of the vet who lived next door. She was cute as anything as a puppy - aren't they all - but she grew into a little terror. She would eat anything, and I mean anything. She ate everything metal that she could find. She ate buttons off of blouses, she ate tissues; you name it, she ate it. She even ate my mom's good gold earrings once. I remember mom followed her around for awhile, and finally got them back. Not only did she eat everything, she wouldn't let you take it away. She'd hide under the dining room table and bite anyone who went under there to retrieve whatever it was she was eating.

I noticed that the dog on the wine label has a little halo hanging over his head. I sure hope this wine is a lot better than Rascal was.

Hazeldale Dog Day Afternoon Pictures

We had a fun time at the annual Dog Day Afternoon. We ran into Molly and Miss Muffett, a tri-color Cavalier. There were dancing dogs, fly dogs, and dogs of every shape and size.

Fun Day

Yesterday Kendall and I attended the Oregon Trail Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club's annual Fun Day. It started as a cool, cloudy day but ended up being a gorgeous day here in Oregon. There were about 30 or so people there and lots of Cavaliers representing all of the colors that Cavaliers can be. The host had a beautiful fenced in yard with lots of room for the dogs to run around.

There were games to play including musical hula hoops, agility, fastest runner, fastest eater, longest sit stay, and lots of others.

And they're off...

Some of the dogs were pretty good at agility.

Everyone had a great time. Kendall and I played a few of the games.

The games were followed by a nice BBQ and pot luck. We're looking forward to the next one.
