Kendall's First Christmas

Waiting for Santa

A new stuffed bone with a squeaker inside from Stephanie.

A new chew toy. I think she liked it.

More snow pictures

It may be the holiday season, but all anyone can talk about around here is the snow. We had the snowiest December on record - 19" in Portland, and it's still hanging around. Fourteen days is way too many for a town that's used to seeing it snow and melt in the same day. Here are a few final snow pictures for 2008.

12" and counting

It's still snowing. We had to shovel a spot for Kendall to go out and pee. I think she's had enough snow to last her awhile. Now she runs out, pees, and runs right back in. While she was napping by the fire last night I was out taking pictures of Christmas lights in the neighborhood.

The other animals

With all of the snow, and now the freezing rain, the squirrels and birds are hunting for food. We did our part by filling the squirrel feeder with fresh hazelnuts and filling the bird feeder with food. We have a hummingbird that continues to visit, so we brought in the feeder to thaw out.

Update: Put the hummingbird feeder back out, and we had two hummingbirds there at the same time. I tried all summer to attract them with no luck. Now I just have to figure out how to keep them coming all year.

Whose bed is it, anyway?

Kendall seems to think that the bed she commandeered from the cats and proceeded to destroy last week, is really hers. Here she is kicking Rico out of the bed.

And looking so smug.

Snow, snow, and more snow

I haven't seen this much snow on the valley floor since I moved here 12 years ago. It just keeps snowing and snowing. It's been cold since the last storm so the snow stuck around all week. We kept getting snow showers here and there but today it's blowing and snowing. It's pretty, but we're pretty much stuck inside. I headed out to learn to make tamales from someone this morning but headed right back home at 9:30. It's been snowing since I left the house at 6:30 this morning.

Kendall's loving all the snow. She just runs and runs around the back yard. She didn't want to go out for a long walk earlier. Who can blame her?

Where's all this white stuff coming from?

Snow!

It's not often we get snow all the way to the valley floor, but it's been snowing all day. This was Kendall's first experience with snow. She was a bit confused at first and then jumped right in. She loves it!

A new camera!

I got a new Canon Xsi camera last week. We went to the Oregon coast on Monday. The weather cleared just as we got to the coast.

Christmas pictures

A friend of Clyde's came over on Friday night and took pictures that we used on our Christmas card this year.

This is all that's left...

Oregon Coast

We headed off to the coast on Saturday with Kendall and the trailer. We heard from the weather man that it was supposed to be a beautiful day at the coast. Here's what we found.

We camped at South Beach State Park, just south of Newport. Surprisingly, the campground was almost full. There were a lot of big rigs there but also a few pop ups and tents. This was Kendall's first visit to the beach. There's a nice paved trail that heads out to the dunes.

The ocean!! Wheeeeeeee!

Kendall was wet and sandy when we got back to camp.

She's right at home in the trailer.

We woke up on Sunday to a beautiful day at the coast.

Graduation

What a busy week it has been! NSTA was in town, so that meant some extra duties for me. I'm a little late getting this posted, but here are the pictures from Riley's and Kendall's graduation from puppy preschool on Tuesday night.

There was a series of contests. Kendall won the down/stay contest and the most number of tricks contest, while Riley won the fastest puppy race. Kendall performed her repertoire of tricks including sit, down, roll over, speak, spin, shake, and target. We need to find some new tricks to teach her. Now, if we could only get her to come when called as reliably as she spins on command...
