Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to therapy dogs. The dog-and-handler teams are registered volunteers with Delta Society's Pet Partners Program, sponsored by DoveLewis. This program is for children who are reading on their own. Sessions are 20 minutes in length. Space in this program is limited.
This program is made possible by the Dove Lewis Animal Assisted Therapy and Education Program and Delta Society.
Registration is required. Please phone (503)350-3600 to register or sign up in person at the Children's Desk on the first floor of the library. Registration for the Spring 2011 session begins Wednesday, March 2, 2011.
If you have kids who are reading on their own, it's definitely worthwhile. They say they don't always fill all of the slots.

I think any child would be lucky to sit next to Kendall because looks like a very attentive dog (and a very cute one at that)! I love the Read to Dogs program but I don't think our coon hound, Daisy, would be able to handle being inactive in a library.
Hi, I noticed you commented on my blog. I just want to say thanks for visiting my blog, and I look forward to visting yours as well!
That is absolutely wonderful!! I had no idea Kendall was a therapy pet, that is so awesome!
I would LOVE to do this with Magnus. Maizey would love it, but she couldn't qualify for Delta Society yet with her fear of dogs issues.:( Plus I feed my dogs The Honest Kitchen and you can't be a Delta dog if you feed a raw diet so that would have to change and I haven't decided if I'm willing to do that or not yet. Still the reading to kids program is really awesome!
I would love to read more posts on being a therapy dog and how you got to do that!
How nice that you are helping kids get comfortable with reading! I bet you like to hear the stories :)

What an amazing opportuntiy to participate in. Cavaliers are natural children admirers and we know if there is a lap they are quite happy to cuddle. Sound very rewarding.
Just found your blog :) Fellow Cavalier owner (I run agility with mine).
Just wanted to say I've never heard of anyone doing this before (I'm over in Scotland, maybe people don't here), but it's such a lovely thing to do! And wowe Kendall sure is pretty :)
