Oregon Coast

I took Clyde to the coast for his birthday this past weekend. The weather was beautiful when we got there on Friday afternoon. We could see all the way to the horizon. It was warm and sunny, very unusual for the Oregon coast in May. We stayed in a great condo with an amazing view! We'll definitely be back to visit.

Of course, we took Kendall with us. She loves the beach. She was really enjoying the sunshine and her new chew toy in the condo.

She couldn't help but look cute in this picture.

Friday evening the fog rolled in and stayed throughout Saturday. I didn't get a lot of pictures on the beach because of the fog. This was taken with the little point-and-shoot camera because I didn't want to get all the moisture in my good camera.

It cleared up a bit on Sunday morning, although it was still overcast. I got up early and saw a whale. I thought about waking up Clyde but knew he'd never be awake fast enough to come over to the window and see it. It spouted three times before I lost it behind the buildings. We also saw lots of seals playing in the water. There was a baby seal on the beach that Clyde walked up and saw, but I stayed back with Kendall.

Vintage trailers

I promised to upload some pictures of the teardrops and vintage trailers from last weekend. Here they are:

Farm Animals

Kendall was completely worn out by the end of the weekend last weekend. We camped right next to a pasture that had a steady stream of new farm animals for Kendall to meet. When we first arrived, a young cow wandered over and stayed for a long time. Kendall found her voice and barked at it quite a bit. Then, two horses came over, and she didn't know what to think.

After the cow and two horses, an alpaca (or llama, I never know the difference) came out. If that wasn't enough, there was also a sheep, a goat, a rooster, and lots of chickens. She barked most of Friday, but got comfortable with them for the rest of the weekend.

Yappy Hour

Tonight was Yappy Hour at Paragon in Portland. The 2-hour happy hour is an adoption event for the Oregon Humane Society. Kendall had a great time meeting lots of dogs and people. It wasn't as crowded as other months. The weather tonight was absolutely beautiful - low 70's and sunny. It doesn't get much better than this in the northwest.

It was so nice to see one of the dogs that came for the adoption event adopted by a family tonight. There were also a lot of rescue dogs there with their new families. What a nice way to spend an evening.

We had dinner at Paragon, since I got home from work pretty late. I had one of the best corned beef sandwiches ever! We'll definitely be back next month. For those of you in Portland, it happens the last Wednesday of every month at Paragon, located at 13th and Hoyth. 6-8 pm

A Spaniel Planter

This is one of the few things we bought at the Packwood Swap Meet. I couldn't pass it by. It's now sitting on our back deck smiling at the house.

Camping Season is Here!

It's Memorial Day weekend, which means it's time for Spring Fling 2009. Every year we join the Teardrops of Oregon and Washington (TOW) for a gathering of teardrop and vintage trailers near Packwood, WA. Usually it pours down rain, but we lucked out this year with beautiful weather in the 70's.

This year the gathering was moved to the property of one of the TOW members because the campground we were scheduled to visit was damaged by all the snow we had back in December 2008.

We drove in to Packwood, WA on Saturday to visit their swap meet. The entire town turns into one gigantic swap meet with vendors in every parking lot and field. There's lots of shopping to be done. We weren't looking for anything in particular this year, but it's always fun to walk around and see what kind of stuff the vendors have. Kendall met lots and lots of dogs and even more people. It was great for her. We're really trying to get her used to meeting people without jumping up on them. It's hard when people come at her with arms extended, excited kissy faces, and they're bending down to her level. She's getting better as she meets more and more people.

That's Mount Rainier in the background.

There was a chainsaw artist there that was just starting to carve a huge log.

It got really dewey (is that a word?) at night. Kendall did not like getting wet in the morning one bit!

I've got lots of pictures of trailers and other fun stuff from the weekend that I'll post later this week.

Vacation and Lots To Do

Kendall got to go on vacation while Clyde and I traveled on our annual trip to the Florida Keys. She went to stay with Jen from Puparazzi for the week. Jen has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as well as another dog (I can't remember what kind right now) and her roomate has a couple of dogs. Kendall was there for over a week and I don't think she missed us a bit. It's so nice to have somewhere for Kendall to stay when we go away on extended trips.

I haven't posted in a while because I was sick when I got home from vacation, I'm having trouble with my camera, and we've been tied up with house projects. I know... Excuses, excuses.

Kendall is headed out on a camping trip coming up soon, so I'll be sure to take lots of picutres and post when we get back.
