Kendall and I have been a registered Pet Partners team for just over a year now. I don't blog about our volunteer time as a Pet Partners team very much, because it just seems too personal sometimes. We took Kendall down to Urban Fauna yesterday for Cavalier Day. It's always so much fun watching them interact. Today Kendall and I did our first session ever at the Beaverton Library Read to the Dogs Program. We had four children signed up to read with us, but only three showed up. On Sunday, we drove out east on the Oregon Outback National Scenic Byway. I've been out that highway before but never knew that area was known as the Oregon Outback. Today Kendall and I drove up to the top of Lava Butte to take some pictures. Lava Butte is a cinder cone that juts up out of a lava flow outside of Bend.  Fall is in full swing in Central Oregon. The aspen leaves have all changed and have almost all fallen off the trees. I love the sound they make when the wind rustles through them. Today is my last day of work before I embark on a series of events better known as vacation/sabbatical. I am lucky to work for a company that gives you a 4-week sabbatical after ten years of service. We're allowed to tack up to 2 weeks of PTO on to that for a total of 6 weeks off! I have some wonderful adventures planned for Kendall and me. Stay tuned!

I was in the store yesterday and a label on a bottle of wine caught my eye. Yesterday Kendall and I attended the Oregon Trail Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club's annual Fun Day. It started as a cool, cloudy day but ended up being a gorgeous day here in Oregon. We just returned from a weekend of camping - in the rain again - at Stub Stewart State Park. It's Oregon's newest state park and only about 45 min. from us. The lupines were in full bloom. One of the last things I had to do for our Delta Society paperwork was send in a photo of Kendall and me for our ID badge. We ran over to work today so that my co-worker could take our picture.

We seem to have a knack for finding towns that are having festivals or parades. Saturday was Loyalty Days in Newport, OR, and it just so happened that they had a parade planned. The parade was in honor of our veterans.There is a Coast Guard station in Newport, and they did the honors of carrying the first American flag in the parade. I just amazes me how many people don't stand when the flag

There's something magical that happens to dogs' brains when you get them on the beach. They're more playful, they chase things you can't see, and they have the best times of their lives.
